About Us

East End Community Services has been a cornerstone of the Xenia Avenue community since 1997, creating opportunities for children and families to thrive. Our work is grounded in a whole-family, two-generational approach, recognizing that the success of children is deeply connected to the stability and well-being of their families.

Built on three interconnected pillars—Health and Wellbeing, Workforce and Training Services, and Education and Youth Services—East End empowers individuals and families through a comprehensive strategy that supports multiple generations simultaneously.

Evolution of East End Community Services

1995-2000: The Foundation

1995

Twin Towers Neighborhood Development Corporation, the predecessor to EECS, was founded by Sister Rose and Dick McBride to focus on housing rehabilitation.

1998

Launched Miracle Makers, an afterschool program to support children.

1999

Established a board of neighborhood supporters and city hall representatives to expand impact.

2000

Moved into 624 Xenia Ave.

Launched the Neighborhood Job Connection Program to provide resume-building assistance and job connections.

2001 – 2010: Growth and Response to Emerging Challenges

2003

Launched the Senior Services Program to support seniors on fixed incomes.

2009

EECS partnered with St. Mary Development and the State of Ohio on a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Project, securing $18 million in investments.

2010 – 2013

Built 80 single-family homes with a goal of increasing homeownership.

2012 – 2017: Addressing Crime and the Opioid Epidemic

2012-2013

Initiated crime and drug intervention efforts: • Secured a national grant through the Department of Justice and Police. • Dayton Police Department (DPD) made 100 arrests, with 97% drug-related in East Dayton. The opioid epidemic severely impacted East Dayton.

2014

Launched Conversations 4 Change, a partnership with DPD (Dayton Police Department) to connect individuals with treatment before Medicaid expansion.

2017

EECS joins with Westcare. WestCare operates in 17 states, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Republic of Palau, the Dominican Republic, and the Northern Mariana Islands, offering services in treatment & rehabilitation, mental health & wellness, emergency support, housing opportunities, education & prevention, veteran services, criminal justice support, and domestic violence.

2017- Present: Expansion and Future Initiatives

2024

Nichole Smith appointed as the new Executive Director of EECS.

2025

EECS opens Whole Family Service Hub which focus on three pillars: Education and Youth Services, Health and Wellbeing, and Workforce and Training Services.
